WISHES ~I'll be there~
Sung by: 20th Century
Translated by: Mina-P (Email: Minako@senshigakuen.com)
Version 1.00

Note: This song was 20th Century's first single, with Sakamoto-kun's "You'll Be In My Heart" (the Disney "Tarzan" theme) as the B-side. There's something very cool about this song, in the sense that the progression of the song simply flows smoothly along. It's not especially fast or high or intense, but just grooves. The lyrics move along really swiftly, which is unexpected for a song with such an unhurried pace, but they really end up creating a nice, rhythmic groove for the song to follow. An excellent song and single for ToniSen... although I still find it hard to believe that TARZAN was the B-side. Whatever.

harewataru sora ni chirakashita
garakuta no you na mirai o
me o tsumutte tadotte miru
hiraita te no hira de nijimu kioku

The future is scatter in the perfectly clear sky
Like so much trash
I close my eyes and try to recall
The memories that slip through my fingers

mukashi kita kono basho de
kaze ni mukatte tatte miru
ano toki to chigai boku ga
yuuhi no semaru kage ni utsuru yo

In this place where we used to come
I stand facing the wind
I was completely different back then
The shadow of my former self falls in the setting sun

futari o tsutsumu fukai yami wa
tada nanigenaku
tsuita uso ni hisondeta

The darkness enveloping us
Lurked behind
Casually spun lies

shiranai uchi ni ima ja bokura
atarimae ni otona ni natte
nagasareteku hibi no naka e
sukoshizutsu surihetteitta yuuki

Before we knew it
The two of us, naturally, became adults
Inside of the flowing days
Little by little our courage is warn down

subete wa kono sora ga
itsuka nomikondekureru n darou
ureshii koto kanashii koto
kimi no kureta yasashisa sae mo

I wonder if everything will someday
Be swallowed up by this sky
Happy things, sad things
Even the kindness you showed me

hagureta toki ni sayonara tsugeru
itsuwari no nai
kimochi dake todokeru yo

When I become separated from you, I bid goodbye
And let my true
Feelings reach you

ashita e no haruka na omoi o
dakishimete bokura wa arukidasu
sorezore no kiseki o nokoshite

We start walking, embracing our distant feelings
Which continue on into tomorrow
Each leaving our own tracks

tsumi naku hikaru shiroi kumo ni
owaranai hirogatteiku negai nosete

And send our endlessly expanding wishes
Into the pure, glittering white clouds

kimi no habataku yume no saki e
sono michi wa doko made mo tsuzuku yo
yuruginai puraido o mune ni hime

Ahead of your fluttering dreams
The path continues on limitlessly
I conceal the unwavering pride in my heart

sore demo tsuraku natta toki wa
itsudatte furikaereba hora     I'll be there

But when things get trying
At any time if you turn around     I'll be there

moteamasu hodo no jounetsu de
kizutsukeatta aoi kiseki wa
kagerou no naka e kieta kedo

With passion that's almost too much to handle
The wounded, young miracle
Disappeared in a heated shimmer (1)

itsuka waratte hanaseru nara
sono toki made hohoemi wasurezu ni ite

Some day you'll be able to laugh and talk about it
But until that day don't forget your smile

ashita e no haruka na omoi o
dakishimete bokura wa arukidasu
azayaka na kiseki o nokoshite

We start walking, embracing our distant feelings
Which continue on into tomorrow
Leaving clear tracks behind us

futto sabishiku natta toki wa
itsudatte furikaereba hora     I'll be there

When things suddenly become lonely
At any time if you turn around     I'll be there

(1) Kagerou is one of my favorite Japanese words, but it doesn't really have a translation in English. It refers to the wavy lines and shimmer that seem to appear just above the ground when it gets really hot outside.

Lyrics belong to Obata Hideyuki and Avex Trax, taken from the Very best album, AVCD-11881~2 (disc 2, track 8). Not like the words make any sense if you haven't heard the song, anyway. Romanized and translated into English very badly by Mina-P, with desperately needed help, as always, by Mako-chan. Any comments or corrections can be mailed to Mina-P at Minako@senshigakuen.com.
