Haruka

Distant

Sung by: Spitz

Version 1.00

Note: Spitz has got to be one of the weirdest bands out there. Three of the four member band look like your next door neighbors; the fourth has a yellow Mohawk with bug-like contacts. They've been in the business for 10 years, but their leader still hyperventilates on TV. I simply don't get them at all, but their music speaks for themselves. Haruka is simply a beautiful, soaring song that speaks of summer and breezes and love. I can't get enough of it. So enjoy this song and give poor poor Masamune-san a paper bag; he looks like he needs it.

natsu no iro ni akogareteta     futsuu no mainichi

nagasaretari     sakarattari     tsuzuku hosoi michi

Everyday, we longed for the color of summer

Always strolling down and opposing the narrow lane

kimi to meguriatte     mou ichido sanagi ni natta

uso to hontou no hazama de     kiekaketa boku ga

I came across you and became a child once again (1)

In the space between truth and lies, I started to disappear

omoide kara tsugihagi shita     kanashii daiarii

kagi mo kakezu     tabidatsu no wa     sukoshi kowai kedo

It's a sad diary of patched up memories but

Starting off without even locking it up is a little scary

oka no ue ni tatte     ookiku kaze o suikonde

ima     kokoro kara ieru yo     nioi sou na     I love you

Stand on top of a hill     breathe in the strong winds

Now     I can say it from my heart     it's almost fragrant     I love you

sugu ni tobesou na ki ga shita senaka

yuma kara samenai tsubasa

Backs that felt like they would soon take flight

Wings that don't awaken from dreams

toki no yohaku     nuritsubushita     akubi no ato de

"shiawase" toka     yabo na kotoba     mune ni daita mama de

In the space of time after being painted by a yawn

I held senseless words like "happiness" to my chest

kuzuresou na mirai o     hadashi de kakenukeru you na

sonna urawaza mo nai kedo     ashita ni wa kitto...

Like you're running barefoot through the crumbling future

There's no tricks like that, but tomorrow will surely...

bokura sorezore     aogimiru sora

yume kara samenai tsubasa

Skies that look up at each of us

Wings that don't awaken from dreams

tobesou na ki ga shita senaka

yuma kara samenai tsubasa

Backs that felt like they would take flight

Wings that don't awaken from dreams

sorezore     aogimiru sora

yuma kara samenai tsubasa

Skies that look up at each of us

Wings that don't awaken from dreams

tooi     tooi     haruka na basho e

Far off     far off     to a distant place

(1) I apologize for this line. It originally says, "become a pupa once again." Although "pupa" has much better connotations with the whole "soaring" image of the song, it also loses all romanticism. I tried valiantly to come up with a word that conveyed "infantile creature with wings" and "romanticism" in one word, but it didn't work, thus my translation.

Lyrics belong to Kusano Masamune and Polydor, taken from the Haruka single, UPCH-5055 (track 1). Not like the words make any sense if you haven't heard the song, anyway. Romanized and translated into English very badly by Mina-P, with desperately needed help, as always, by Mako-chan. Any comments or corrections can be mailed to Mina-P at Minako@senshigakuen.com.
