Shisutaa

Sister

Performed by: Porno Graffitti
Translated by: Mina-P
Version 1.00

Note: I love this deceptively simple song. It's very... quaint in a way, but very addictive at the same time. "Sister", of course, refers to a nun, not a family relation. And as can be expected for a Porno Graffitti song, even lyrics about sailing and nuns actually refer to sad lost loves. Because Haruichi-san can't write happy lyrics to save his live, apparently.

higashi no umi ni fune wo ukabete dare yori hayaku asa wo mukae ni
kaze ga tayori wo hakobu to iu nara     boku ni ateta kaze ha fuiteinai

A boat floats in the eastern sea, ready to greet morning before anyone else
If the wind brings tidings     then the wind addressed to me isn't blowing yet

anata no tame ni inoru koto nara ima no boku ni mo yurusareru deshou
nagare nagarete tadayou saki de natsukashii hibi wo omoidashiteru

If I pray for you, I wonder if I'll be forgiven now, too
Floating along the stream, at the place I'm drifting to I remember those good old days

kanashimi ga tomo no you ni katarikaketekuru
eien ni yorisotte bokura ha ikiteiku

Grief talks to me like a friend
Huddled close to eternity, we are alive

kazoekirenai hito no namida de yoake mae no umi ha kyou mo aoi

The pre-dawn sea of tears from countless people is still blue today

anata no kaketa sekai ha ima ya muchitsujo ni tada kumitaterarete
giriri giriri to kishiminagara mo sore demo mata futatabi ugokidasu

The world without you is just built from the present and chaos
It barely squeaks by, but then it starts moving again

kono kisetsu sakihokoru shiroi hana wo tsunde
nami no ma ni azukeyou anata ni todokeba ii

I pluck the white flower in full bloom during this season
And I place it between the waves, hoping that it reaches you

itsumo no you ni akai higasa o sashita anata ga hirottekuretara

May you pick it up, carrying your red parasol like always

kane no oto ga misaki wo nozomu kyoukai kara hibiku
utsukushii shisutaa no inori wo nose hito no kokoro ni mo
jikan no utsuri wo yasahiku tsugeteiku

The ringing of a bell from the church reaches towards the cape
And reaches the hearts of people relying on the prayer of a beautiful Sister
It gently announces the passing of time

kanashimi ga tomo no you ni katarikaketekuru
eien ni yorisotte bokura ha ikiteiku

Grief talks to me like a friend
Huddled close to eternity, we are alive

nishi no umi made fune ha nagarete tasogare to issho ni shizumeba ii
asu ni nattara aeru no kana

A boat drifts until the western sea; it should sink along with the dusk
I wonder if we'll meet when tomorrow comes

Lyrics belong to Shindo Haruichi and Sony Music Records, taken from the Thump album, SECL-179 (track 8). Not like the words make any sense if you haven't heard the song, anyway. Romanized and translated into English very badly by Mina-P, with desperately needed help, as always, by Mako-chan. Any comments or corrections can be mailed to Mina-P.
