The Gakuen uses Japanese order as a standard; family name first. Some authors use pseudonyms with the order reversed, but I've tried to keep things simple here.
Where can I buy this stuff?
Please see the links page for some places to look online. The ISBN number is listed for all books at the bottom of each review.
I don't know what I'd like, what would you recommend for me?
Finding a publishing house or magazine you enjoy is a good first step. Every book has a target audience, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it if you don't fit the profile. Translated manga is a growing industry all over the world, and if you can find something in your native language that appeals to you, you'll have a better idea of what to look for in Japanese. Picking up the manga that inspired your favorite anime series can get you started!
Can I link to a specific review?
Sure, as long as you don't hotlink images. We don't have the bandwidth to spare.
Will you scan in the manga for me so I can read it online instead?
No. Please support the authors and purchase their original works. Most books are very reasonably priced, and well worth the money. Hopefully our review can help you decide if it's something you're interested in. If you have further questions regarding a particular work, please feel free to contact us.
So do you speak Japanese?
Minako-chan has excellent formal training in Japanese and lived overseas to study. She's extremely talented at all things Linguistics! I think she's swell, though she's too humble to say so. I, on the other hand, have absolutely no education and learned to read Japanese from the very books in these reviews. My vocabulary is quite specialized. ;) Every new addition to the collection teaches me something, but I know I have a long way to go.
