makoto's notes
Looking at this book makes me feel really old. [wince] Anyway, this was the collaboration of Kodaka-sensei and Koide-sensei in honor of the release of their OVAs. (Kizuna for Kodaka-sensei, Houkago no Shokuinshitsu for Koide.) Boy's Love stuff rarely makes it into the animated market, so this was quite the big deal... hence, doujinshi!

The first half is a Houkago story. Mitsuro catches a cold; overprotective Kazama takes care of him. Extremely sweet. The second half is Kizuna, the angel short story that was reprinted in the back of... volume 5? 6? Somewhere in there. An angel that looks like Ranmaru comes to visit. Wacky hijinks ensue.

It's a nice-looking book, foil-inlay in the cover and rice paper at the front and the back. Mostly, it's just the joy of Koide-sensei and Kodaka-sensei together that makes it worthwhile. :)

makoto's notes
Koide-sensei tends not to write long serials in her professional works, but her doujinshi series can be massive. This original work follows Kou and Tetsuya, two high-schoolers who've been friends since childhood. Kou is hot-headed with a strong sense of justice; Tetsuya shares those traits, but only when they relate to Kou.

Book One follows Tetsu's slow realization that he feels more for Kou than just friendship, when Kou starts dating a girl from their class. Book Two seals their relationship when Kou gets attacked and Tetsu comes to the rescue; whatever Tetsu does for Kou's sake, he doesn't do it halfway. It's a bit unsettling. Book Three, the rival appears! There's not really any competition, but Tetsu's jealous cousin does some pretty nasty things for love.

I'm missing a couple issues, and unfortunately book five must have been the Break-Up issue, but it's okay because I know how Koide-sensei works. :) The tension comes to a climax with Kou's inevitable "Fall from a Great Height" (nearly all her early works involve such an event in some form, and I've never understood the real reason why...), which forces Tetsu back to his side.

All of these books are long; the first one is nearly 80 pages of story, and the rest average 40 to 60 pages. The pacing is different from her professional works since there's not a set length; she seems to just write until she's done with one story, and then moves to the next. And as always, it's fantastic to watch her art style evolve from book to book.

makoto's notes
Hooray! The continuation book for her Dear+ Comic "Koi no Yamai ni Tsukeru Kusuri". The manga ended rather blandly; office worker Munakata had confessed his love to teacher Naoki, who maintained his heterosexuality despite having made out on numerous occasions with popstar Yuu of the idol duo "Cross". Naoki chose Munakata over Yuu, but still said their feelings aren't the same.

Munakata and Naoki are continuing on as friends, but even though nothing was supposed to change, wheels have started turning in Naoki's head... and Yuu gives a good kick in the pants to Munakata to "encourage" things along. This absolutely should have been the last chapter in the actual comic, but I guess time and space didn't allow for it. It doesn't seem too racy for Dear+, but perhaps... either way, it's a great epilogue and a much more fulfilling final reel.

There's a bonus chapter at the end with Yuu and Jin (who, as I'm sure you know, totally aren't Tackey and Tsubasa) post-concert, with a late-night trip to a shrine on New Years. I'll be very surprised if Koide-sensei doesn't give them their own manga shortly... she does love her idols, doesn't she. ^_^
